Overview
The Cavapoo is a designer breed that started showing up in Australia in the 1990’s. This pup is a cross of the King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and the Mini Poodle. In Australia, these puppies are commonly called Cavadoodles or Cavalier Poodles.
No matter what you call them, these Cavapoo puppies are bred to be friendly, loving house pets that get along with children. They combine some of the most attractive traits of the King Charles Cavalier and the Mini Poodle, including low shedding, a sweet, round face, charming, floppy ears, and a desire to snuggle. They also have a long tail held proudly, similar to a Spaniel tail.
They are a relaxed pup that requires only moderate exercise, making them perfect as a lovable lapdogs.

They bond strongly with their owners and are most happy when their master is nearby (or they are on their master’s lap!) The Cavapoo will become very attached to their owners and have been known to become lonely and despondent when their owners are away. Make sure to give your Cavapoo lots of attention and approval.

As puppies, they can be easily distracted so be patient during training. Consistency and persistence will result in a well-trained puppy
Health
The Cavapoo is a relatively healthy crossbreed. The average lifespan is 13-15 years old. All mixed breed dogs have a better chance of having fewer health concerns because of their genetic diversity, but Cavapoos may also be susceptible to the health problems of both the Cavalier and Mini Poodle. Health concerns to watch for in the Cavapoo are:
- Hip Dysplasia
- Ear and eye infections
- Seizures
- Mitral Valve Disease (MVD)
To keep your Cavapoo puppy healthier, watch his weight to minimize chances of hip dysplasia. Because this breed can eye and ear issues, it’s important to clean your Cavapoo’s ears weekly, and gently wipe the area around his eyes each day to remove any small bits of crust or buildup.
Coat & Coat Care
The Cavapoo’s coat is one of its best features. The coat soft, curly, and stands away from their body, giving them the soft, cuddly appearance of a teddy bear. Even though the coat looks great, it is relatively low-maintenance.
Cavapoos love grooming time with their masters. Their coat requires some grooming to prevent matting. Daily brushing will minimize tangles and keep the coat looking fluffy and soft. It’s recommended to trim around the eyes and ears to reduce infections. Overall grooming every 4 – 6 weeks will keep your pup looking clean and tidy.
