Health

All mixed breed dogs have a better chance of having fewer health concerns because of their genetic diversity. However, because both Poodles and Labrador Retrievers are prone to hip dysplasia and cataracts, this designer breed may be at risk of developing one or both of these conditions. It’s important to monitor your pup’s weight carefully, because excess bulk is more likely to aggravate hip dysplasia.

Because this breed sometimes is prone to eye infections, gently wipe the area around his eyes each day to remove any small bits of crust or buildup. Take your dog to the vet if you see cloudiness.

Coats can be curly, and non-shedding, similar to the Poodle. They can also be short, dense, and sometimes harsh in texture, more similar to the Labrador.

Because matting can irritate skin, it’s important to minimize matting on your curly-coated dog. If your Labradoodle has predominant Lab features, they will tend to shed a little.
