The Basset Hound is thought to be a descendant of the Bloodhound. They were known as slow, short dogs with outstanding noses. This breed started to become popular in the 1800’s and made it’s way over to America.
The Basset Hound was first registered by the AKC in 1885 and was grouped as Hound.

The Basset Hound is social, gentle and independent. They make great hunting dogs and do well with children. This laid back breed will make for a great family pet.

Coat & Coat Care

Their coat is short, smooth and dense.

The Basset Hound coat has very little maintenance. Brushing 2 – 3 times weekly should help keep their coat shiny and healthy. The Basset Hound is an average shedder and will require more attention during the shedding season. Bathe when necessary with a mild shampoo.
