Temperament
If you want to buy a Mini Aussiedoodle puppy, it’s smart to do a little research first. These playful, loving dogs make great companions, but they are not lapdogs. This is an exceptionally energetic breed that demands lots of outdoor exercise every day. Bored or restless dogs will chew and become destructive.
One of the breed’s most delightful attributes is their intelligence. They are a hybrid of two of the most intelligent dogs: Mini Poodles and Mini Australian Shepherds. That’s why they need lots of mental stimulation to stay calm and centered. Teach them jobs like fetching the paper, retrieving their toys, or putting their toys away to keep them mentally occupied.
These canines are good family pets that do well with children. They also play well with other dogs and usually do well with cats and other pets. They are too welcoming and social to be watchdogs. Mini Aussiedoodles love meeting new people.
Health
If you’re considering adopting a Mini Aussiedoodle puppy, make sure you understand this breed’s special health considerations. The average life expectancy is 10-12 years. While most of these dogs are healthy, Poodles and Australian Shepherds share some predispositions to certain health issues, so work with your vet to watch for possible conditions, including;
- Luxating Patella
- Epilepsy
- Hip Dysplasia
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy
Second generation puppies (bred from parents that are both Mini Aussiedoodles) may have a higher risk of health issues. For this reason, second generations litters are discouraged.
For any dog, stay up to date on shots and vaccinations and schedule regular checkups with your veterinarian.
Coat & Coat Care
They may have a coat like a Poodle that is curly and non-shedding. Or your pup may have the coat of an Australian Shepherd that is slightly wavy and a medium length.
Either coat should be brushed 2 to 3 times each week. If you Aussiedoodle’s coat favors his Poodle ancestry, you may want to trim the coat for easier care. If your pup’s coat resembles the Australian Shepherd, they will shed periodically and should be groomed more often during shedding periods.
Gently wipe the inside of the ears once a week with a clean, damp cloth to prevent infections.
